Q.(4) I tend to have a temper and get angry and hostile. How can I control my emotions?

Getting angry and or hostile are emotions we all feel at one time or another. When those emotions linger is when we want to handle them in a positive manner. Page 62 of Phenomenal Women: That’s Us! is a page that is called Strategies For Changing Your Mood and will serve you well whether you are Male or Female. You can say that "I control my emotions well" by applying some of these strategies.

1. Look at the funny side of a serious situation. By making light of a heavy predicament, we immediately de-escalate it. Visually blow it totally out of proportion until it, becomes absurd.
 

2. Look for the positive aspects of the situation instead of only the negatives. Focus on learning something about' how you can respond and grow from it and then move on.
 

3. Solve problems creatively. In this way you are more likely to dissipate the problem than escalate it.
 

4. Pursue a goal. Reestablish your dreams and work toward them.
 

5. Take time out to play. Then come back and view the situation. Our attitude changes when we feel better and can view the situation more objectively.
 

6. Use relaxation techniques such as guided imagery, yoga, t' ai chi or deep breathing.


 

Using any combination of these techniques will put our lives back into perspective. A true sign of burnout is exaggerating our dilemmas. These strategies are sure to shrink things back to normal size.

Stresses and crisis are in everyone's life. When we are in balance we don't lose our perspective, and it becomes easy to keep things in proportion. Prioritizing is then a natural process, and we are more likely to be sociable and creative.


When we are balanced, we have high self-esteem and a can-do attitude-and nothing seems overwhelming.


The future arrives one hour at a time. Go one step and one day at a time focusing on the present moment. With these strategies, balance becomes a way of life.
